The Honorable Charles S. Sharp (Ret.) serves as Vice President of the Fredericksburg Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors, bringing decades of distinguished judicial, legal, and civic leadership to the organization’s governance.
Judge Sharp served on the 15th Judicial Circuit Court of Virginia in Fredericksburg from 2008 to 2019. Prior to his tenure on the bench, he was a Partner at Barrett & Sharp, Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Fredericksburg, Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney for Stafford County, and Chief Prosecutor for the Rappahannock Regional Drug Court. He is a Certified Mediator by the Supreme Court of Virginia, with areas of experience spanning medical malpractice, personal injury, premises liability, condemnation, construction, consumer and contract matters, defamation, governmental and insurance coverage issues, professional liability, real property, trusts and estates, and family law.
His extensive public service includes chairing the Evaluations Committee of the Virginia State Drug Treatment Court Advisory Board, membership on the Virginia Code Commission, and serving as Vice-Chair of the Virginia Sentencing Guidelines Commission. He is a Past President of both the Virginia Association of Commonwealth’s Attorneys and the Virginia Drug Court Association, and a Past Chairman of the Commonwealth’s Attorneys Service Counsel.
Judge Sharp earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia and his Bachelor of Arts from Vanderbilt University. His lifelong commitment to justice and community continues through his leadership on the FSO Board, where he helps advance the Symphony’s mission of enriching the greater Fredericksburg region through exceptional musical performance and arts education.
