John C. McKeown serves on the Board of Directors for the Fredericksburg Symphony Orchestra, infusing the organization’s governance with an extraordinary portfolio of top-tier executive leadership, multi-million-dollar defense systems engineering, and robust local health system oversight. Mr. McKeown earned his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from Pennsylvania State University before expanding his academic foundations with a Master of Arts from the University of Northern Colorado and a Master of Public Administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University, completing a joint curriculum with the Harvard Business School. He forged a distinguished multi-decade career with industry and the U.S. Department of Defense and the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR). Throughout his tenure, he served in high-level leadership capacities, including Department Head of Systems Engineering and ultimately Technical Director for the multinational F-35 Joint Strike Fighter Program, where he orchestrated complex aircraft development, airworthiness modules, and macro affordability strategies.
A long-time resident of the Fredericksburg area, Mr. McKeown has seamlessly translated his analytical rigor and organizational planning strengths into widespread regional civic advocacy. For over a decade, he lent his corporate governance expertise to the region’s primary medical infrastructure as a Board Member and Trustee for Mary Washington Healthcare (MWHC), where he provided critical financial and operational oversight for the system’s dual acute care hospitals and freestanding emergency facilities. His deep commitment to public welfare is further demonstrated by his hands-on local volunteer work, including a docent at the Shannon Air Museum and dedicating his time to the Saint Vincent dePaul Society. As a trustee of the Fredericksburg Symphony Orchestra, Mr. McKeown aligns his extensive administrative acumen with a profound appreciation for musical artistry, offering vital strategic guidance to ensure the 75-piece ensemble continues to achieve robust fiscal development, expand its corporate sponsor networks, and deliver world-class classical music education to youth across the Rappahannock region.
