Jason Russo

Full Biography

Clarinetist Jason Russo, a native of Providence, Rhode Island, joined The Fredericksburg Symphony in the 2025-2026 Season. In addition to his position with the FSO, he is also a section clarinetist in the United States Navy Concert and Ceremonial Bands. His assignment with The Navy Band follows a five-year tenure in the U.S. Army Field Band, where he performed with the Concert Band and conducted educational outreach across twenty-five states and three countries. During his enlistment with the Field Band, he was a featured soloist, performing Paganini’s virtuosic “Moto Perpetuo” with the Concert Band.

Beyond his position with the FSO and service bands, Jason has performed as an orchestral clarinetist across the globe. He has performed with the Nashville and Harrisburg Symphonies as well as the Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra. Additionally he is on the substitute list for several orchestras in the DMV to include the Fairfax Symphony, Delaware Symphony, and freelance ensembles such as Washington Opera Society and L’Opera Comique de Washington. Prior to his professional music career, Jason performed as principal clarinetist of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra from 2016 to 2018, where he toured twenty countries under the baton of Benjamin Zander.

As an accomplished clarinet soloist, Jason earned the grand prize in the Ronald Sachs International Music Competition, second prize in the Enkor International Competition, honorable mention in the Boston Woodwind Society Harold Wright Merit Award and was also a finalist in the Chamber Orchestra of the Springs Emerging Soloist Competition.

Jason received a Bachelor of Music from Boston Conservatory at Berklee in 2018 and is grateful for the guidance of his teachers Michael Norsworthy, Mark Nuccio and Sam Caviezel.
