Full Biography
Ryan Scott has been a member of the Fredericksburg Symphony since its inception in 2021. Born in Spotsylvania, VA, he began playing horn at the age of 12 and received lessons from Jeremy Cucco. He received his Bachelor’s degree in music education from West Virginia University where he studied with Dr. Virginia Thompson. He then accepted an assistantship to study with Dr. Katie Johnson at the University of Tennessee, where he received his Master’s degree in horn performance.
Before becoming the principal horn of the Fredericksburg Symphony, Ryan held positions in the Fairmont Community Orchestra, Rappahannock Pops Orchestra, and the Piedmont Symphony Orchestra. He currently plays with the Old Bridge Chamber Orchestra in Prince William as well as the Riverside Center for the Performing Arts in Stafford.
Ryan is also a local music educator and band director. From 2016 - 2023 he served as the band director at Ni River Middle School in Spotsylvania County. From 2023 to the present, he is the band director at Shirley Heim Middle School in Stafford County as well as the brass coach for Brooke Point High School’s Marching Black-hawks.
